301 and 302 Topics and Chapter Reference

Prerequisite topics: You will note that many very basic topics (such as stoichiometry) are not included in the list of course topics. The decision was made that most of our students had adequate exposure to these topics in high school and could be expected to remember or relearn them on their own. See the supplemental help section below for some resources for students who struggle with these topics. Attached is my list of prerequisite topics. Most of these are the topics agreed upon for the ALEKS summer program, but I reworded them in a learning objective format and fleshed some of them out; hence, to a small degree they also include my own view of what these prerequisites are.

Organic topics that need to be included in 301 and 302, plus suggested examples
Information about the ALEKS system

ALEKS is the system we use to test students' knowledge of prerequisite chemistry topics and then assist them on getting up to speed on those topics prior to the start of classes.
